Digimon Adventure's Taichi and Agumon by G.E.M Megahouse

Digimon Adventure was among the first animes I was ever exposed too - the others being Pokémon and Cardcaptor Sakura. Needless to say, I've retained a love for all three, though I'll admit for Pokémon that love pretty much just extends to the games, as I find the anime a bit too repetitive now. As least as far as my viewing tastes run. Digimon Adventure, however, is an interesting one as - like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura - it's experiencing a reboot in terms of merchandise and now, finally, this April (I think) a new series is due to start!  So, the most obvious thing to do here is to take a look at one of these new pieces of merchandise, and see what we think. And why not start with the legend of the Chosen Children/Digi-Destined? (Hey, as far as 90s subs go, Digimon was pretty solid)

And first up are the boring box pictures that everyone hates but need to be done so that if you decide to go and get this figure, you recognise the box! Yeah, I know, as far as reasons for these types of pictures go, it's rather on the weak side, but at least this box is nice and bright! I did remove the figure from the box for these pictures, just as it seemed to help cut down on the glare. This Taichi was the first production run, and so you can just see the bonus card he cam with through the plastic wrapping in the window.

Fun fact: the picture on the back of the box is actually larger than the actual figure. We also see little images of other members of the Chosen Children/Digi-Destined, all of which are confirmed to come out this year - Hikari is hopefully due at the end of this month, unless she is delayed again.

The stand is a simple, translucent blue, and the base of the stand reminds me of the first series digivices. Always a nice thing to be reminded of, quite frankly, As we can see, they printed the name in English and in smaller... I think it's kanji but I can't be quite sure. I believe kanji is the more commonly used of the three types of Japanese scripts, but I could be wrong. If anyone is more knowledgeable in this area, please feel free to correct me and thus enlighten us. Sharing knowledge is always welcomed!

Now we get to see the little darlings themselves. This line of figures is 1/10 scale, which means they are fairly small. A standard action figure is 1/12, to help you understand. Despite the small size, or perhaps because of it, the sculptors have managed to pack so much detail into this little figure. So let's take a quick look at each one on it's own, shall we?

As we can clearly see, Taichi is in an energetic pose, one which is suited to the hot-headed leader of the group, who seemed ready to throw himself into any sort of danger. The colours come across bright and bold, with the paint applications being flawless to a critical eye. At least, on my particular model that is. His hair is that infamous mess that every fan knew and loved and yes, if you press down on his spikes you will feel it. So... don't do that kids.

Agumon is adorable. Yup. And yes, that fleshy thing there is my hand as due to the way he's been made, Agumon cannot stand on his own. Like his partner, Agumon looks like he's ready to fly head first into whatever adventure is awaiting him, and meet it head on, no matter what dangers they may face.

Okay. I know this is an odd looking picture, but it's firstly to show you how the stand works - it plugs right into Taichi's back. We can also see that the fantastic use of colour continues all round both figures, with blushing and shading in appropriate areas. Agumon attaches to Taichi via little connector plugs on his hand and in his hair, and the pose is very natural and true looking to each character.

And... that's Taichi and Agumon! Hopefully I'll have someone else from this line to look at soon. Hope you enjoyed this quick look!
